Government Announces Adjustments to Insured Mortgages

SUMMARY:
The Minister of Finance has announced changes impacting new mortgage applications requiring mortgage insurance. Effective October 15, 2008:
·         The maximum amortization period for new insured mortgages will be reduced to 35 years from 40 years;
·         A minimum down payment of 5% will be required for new insured mortgages;
·         A consistent minimum credit score requirement will be established; and
·         New loan documentation standards will be introduced.

ACTION:
·         If customers inquire about this issue, please assure them that this is for new mortgage applications only and does not affect existing mortgages.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
· The new limits are planned to take effect October 15, 2008 and we are currently reviewing the changes and are committed to communicating with customers as required.
